Student Teaching, Internship & Fieldwork Placements FAQ |
The Beacon City School District (BCSD) welcomes requests from college and graduate students seeking opportunities to complete student teaching, internships, fieldwork, observations, or other school-based experiences.
To help ensure that placement requests are reviewed consistently and efficiently, the BCSD has established the following process.
Who oversees the placement process?
The student teaching and internship placement process for Teachers and Special Education Teachers is overseen by Dr. Sagrario Rudecindo-O'Neill, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Student Support. Dr. Rudecindo-O'Neill oversees the screening and placement process for education students seeking student teaching and internship opportunities within the District.
The placement process for students seeking placements with Related Services personnel (including School Psychologists, Social Workers, Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, and Physical Therapists) is overseen by Dr. Heather Chadwell Dennis, Assistant Superintendent of Pupil Personnel Services.

How do I request a placement?
All placement requests must be submitted through the appropriate BCSD Google Form.
Using the form allows the District to efficiently review, track, and coordinate placement requests and helps ensure that requests are routed to the appropriate administrator for consideration.
Please do not email individual schools or staff members to submit a placement request. The Google Form is the starting point for the placement process.
What do I need to submit with my request?
Applicants should complete the appropriate Google Form and upload:
-
The corresponding signature page, linked within the form and signed by both the applicant and their placement coordinator, professor, or academic advisor
-
A current resume
-
Proof of fingerprint clearance
Please make sure all required documentation is included when submitting your request. Incomplete requests may delay the review process.
Does submitting a request guarantee a placement?
No, submission of a placement request does not guarantee that a placement will be available or that the District will be able to accommodate a specific placement request.
Placement depends on a number of factors, including the District's staffing and program needs, availability of appropriate supervising staff, school schedules, the requirements of the student's program, and other District considerations.
How are placements determined?
Once a request is submitted, it is reviewed through the District's placement process. The appropriate administrator will consider the student's requested placement, program requirements, and available opportunities when determining whether an appropriate placement can be identified.
When will I hear about my request?
Placement requests are reviewed as opportunities and program needs are identified. Because placements depend on availability, the District cannot guarantee a specific timeline for placement decisions.
Applicants will be contacted if an appropriate placement opportunity is identified.
What happens after a placement has been identified?
Once a placement has been identified and approved, the Human Resources Department will complete the necessary administrative steps related to the student's placement.
At that time, a member of the Human Resources Department will contact the student by phone to obtain their Social Security number for the purpose of adding the student to the District's TEACH system and printing a copy of their fingerprint clearance.
For privacy and security purposes, Social Security numbers will only be collected by phone and should not be submitted by email or through the placement request forms.
