Update on Snow Days and Our Current Calendar
Just a reminder, we have used 4 of the 5 built-in snow days in our current calendar. If that stays the same, Monday, April 6, will be a day off from school. I hope to make this official at the March 23 Board of Education meeting, and I will keep you updated next week.
Reminder- This Friday, March 20, we are closed for Eid al-Fitr.
Draft 26-27 Calendar
You can access the draft calendar here: https://bit.ly/4smwpSn
The Board of Education will approve it on Monday, March 23. The only part of the calendar we will add is the list of days off, which will be added back to the calendar if we do not use all 5 snow days.
Budget Update
We are in the early stages of our 26-27 Budget Website. You can access it here: https://www.beaconk12.org/
We will be adding YouTube links to the different board presentations on the website this week, and I will keep you posted as we add information. If you have any questions for the FAQ, you can email them to me at landahl.m@beaconk12.org.
As I outlined in my presentation to the Board of Education on March 9, our main initiative will be expanding the Rombout Middle School Schedule to a 9-period day, as it is currently an 8-period day. We are doing this primarily to give our students more support and more opportunities.
Our current thinking is this:
- In 6th grade, we will add an every-other-day health class and an every-other-day class focused on the Positivity Project, study skills, and support for students transitioning to middle school.
- In 7th grade, students will be able to take a variety of 10-week electives that we will be adding next year. Students receiving academic intervention services will also have greater access to those classes.
- In 8th grade, we will add technology classes and art classes. The classes 8th-grade students take, such as Algebra and Life Science/Biology, will factor into which electives they can take.
The 9-period day will also potentially allow some students to take both chorus and band.
There will also be some study hall-type classes at the 7th and 8th grades, but not for all students.
We have more work to do on developing our thinking on this, and we will share more information as we develop the plan. We will do that through emails, the website, and information sessions.
Star Student- Pippa Alloway!!
Sargent Elementary School is excited and proud to recognize Pippa Alloway, a fifth grade student who brings kindness, creativity, and enthusiasm to our school community each and every day. In addition to being a standout student, Pippa enjoys taking climbing classes at the Gravity Vault, playing piano, making crafts, and spending time with her brother. Her favorite subject is math, and she is an active member of the Drama Club, where she contributes as a backstage helper. Pippa hopes to become an author one day and dreams of writing her own books. She is a wonderful role model for her peers, and her compassion and positivity shine brightly throughout our school. Congratulations Pippa!

Bravo to the Rombout Players!
They did an outstanding job with their performances this past weekend! It was an amazing result from all of their hard work. I am a terrible photographer, but here is a picture of the cast!

Athletics
Good luck to Tye Elias, Brevin Timm, Caellum Tripaldi, Noah Spiak, and Jayden Mihalchik, who will be competing at Indoor Nationals (Track and Field) this Month!
Our Boys Basketball team, as everyone now knows, won the Section IX Class A championship, our first in 23 years! They also won something else- the Section 9 Sportsmanship Award, which is awarded by the referees of the Section. This is a huge honor, congratulations to the team!
Have a great week!

Superintendent Weekly Update March 8, 2026
It has been a couple of weeks since my last update. We have a lot to cover!
Winter Weather/Snow Day Update
It has been a challenging couple of weeks, and I am very appreciative of everyone’s flexibility regarding schedule changes and winter weather. Just to recap, we have five snow days built into our calendar, and we have used four. According to our calendar, if we stay at four used snow days, Monday, April 6, would become a day off. It seems there is potential for more snow in our future, so I will check back in two weeks to try to add some clarity on where we stand with the calendar and days.
Budget Updates and 26-27 Calendar Updates
I will be discussing both with the Board of Education on Monday night. I will also send a budget update and a draft 26-27 calendar through my updates this week.
Upcoming Calendar Reminders
Friday, March 13, we are closed for students for a Professional Learning Day for our staff.
Friday, March 20, we are closed for students for Eid al-Fitr.
Star Student- Hudson from South Avenue Elementary!!!!!
Hudson is a truly outstanding student and a joy to have at South Avenue. He brings enthusiasm, positivity, and creativity to everything he does. In physical education, Hudson is always eager to participate and gives his best effort no matter the activity. As Ms. Roscino shares, “It is a joy having Hudson in physical education class. He is always eager and enthusiastic to participate no matter what activity or sport is planned.” She also notes that Hudson is a great team player who cheers on his classmates and thoughtfully offers to help with setup and cleanup without hesitation.
In the classroom, Hudson shines across subject areas. Ms. Kenton stated: “Hudson is an exceptional student. He is very creative, fun, and has a great sense of humor.” He is open to teacher feedback, makes strong choices, and can always be relied upon to help others. Ms. Kenton adds, “It was a pleasure to teach Hudson in fourth grade, and we are all looking forward to seeing all of the great things that he will accomplish in the future.”
Hudson’s creativity truly stands out in art class, where his confidence and originality shine. As Ms. Berger shares, “Hudson is incredibly creative and a joy to have in art! He is always open to exploring new ideas and brings his own unique flair to his artwork.” His enthusiasm inspires those around him and helps create a joyful, creative learning space.
Whether he’s learning in class, working with the Student Council, or spending time with friends, Hudson consistently brings positive energy and a smile. Ms. Anson highlights this perfectly, saying, “Hudson is a dedicated student who always gives his best in everything he does. He loves learning and brings a positive energy to everything he’s part of.” She also notes that Hudson is “a great role model here at South Avenue.”
We are so proud of Hudson and all that he contributes to our school community. Congratulations on being our Star Student—we can’t wait to see all the amazing things ahead!

Star Student from Glenham
Glenham Elementary is proud to recognize Lila, a fifth-grade student who joined our school community this year and has already made a meaningful impact. Lila’s bright smile is truly contagious, and she brings positivity and kindness wherever she goes.
She is a wonderful role model for her peers, consistently choosing to stay focused on learning and positive relationships. Lila is always willing to lend a helping hand in her classroom and around the building, demonstrating responsibility, respect, and genuine care for others.
