Check out the recipes served at your school cafeteria for the Farm to School tastings.
We are in our 8th year of Farm to School tastings presented by BCSD School Food Service Department. Tastings help us identify the most popular farm-fresh and vegetable forward entre items we could incorporate into our monthly menu mix.
The recipes that are taste-tested in our school cafeterias each month are selected and prepared by our own School Food Service staff.
During each tasting children at all four Elementary schools taste the recipes and vote on the likeability of the items. We also prepare and serve similar recipes at the Middle and High School levels.
Each month we have one or two fruits or vegetables selected as our “Vegetable of the Month”, which are highlighted in the tasting recipes as well as in classroom activities with Hudson Valley seed and Chef in the Classroom. We try to select produce according to its regional and seasonal availability so that it is likely available at a local market or farm while we are learning about it.
Be sure to ask your child if they tried the tasting recipe.
If they liked it, try making it at home!
